Please Stop Saying We Lost Our Battle to Cancer...

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

Let me, as a current metastatic breast cancer patient and survivor, clear the air that when someone passes away from breast cancer or any cancer they DO NOT lose.

When I see posts about this it makes my blood boil.

This “loss” implies that cancer won.

"Losing" implies we (cancer warriors) are losers... which is so far from the truth.

If you know a cancer warrior, you know they are not losers...

We endure through chemo treatments...

We lose our hair...

We deal with amputations and surgery after surgery...

We deal with hormone changes...

We deal with medical induced menopause...

We deal with PTSD...

We deal with unimaginable side effects...

We deal with scanxiety...

We deal with really difficult thoughts...

We deal with losing control of our body and sometimes our mind...

The list goes on and on...

With God's supernatural strength, comfort and promises I have faced all these things. SO many of us have.

Let me be crystal clear ... Cancer will NEVER win.

I know, I know… people just don’t know and I get that. And I know so many people mean well, they just need to be informed. Well, it’s my mission to clear that up and be raw & real about this journey.

If someone passes from a cancer battle, there is no loss. That’s the beauty of salvation and belief in Jesus. {Isaiah 53: 4-5}

Death is NOT the end!!!!

{John 11: 25-26}

Which means we can let go of that monumental fear and embrace life and people…. We have nothing to lose as a believer!

{Psalm 103: 2-3}

We have FREEDOM in Christ ya’ll!

{Galatians 5:1}

This world is broken and cancer is a result of the fall.

{2 Corinthians 11:3}

But then through God’s incredible mercy He sent Jesus to bridge the gap between us. So we could have a HOPE and a FUTURE! Without fear!! {Jeremiah 29:11}

When I cross into Heaven, please never say I lost my battle to cancer. Cancer won’t gain one thing from me. Cancer is evil and evil lost the war when Jesus hung on that cross shedding his blood for YOU and for ME. {John 3:16}

People don’t realize that God heals in a multitude of ways…. He can heal here on earth… maybe it wasn’t that person’s time yet. God gives each of us a purpose in this life. He uses His people to fulfill His beautiful, intricate plan that we cannot ever understand because His ways are above our ways and His thoughts are above our thoughts. {Isaiah 55: 8-9}

But one day friends, it will ALL make sense. We will understand what He was doing.

God used ALL things for good.

With my cancer, He has brought me true salvation! I was born again on July 6, 2018. Cancer saved my life! Now I’ll never have to fear death because I know that’s not the end. {Matthew 8:17}

He saved my marriage through cancer.

He brought me community through cancer.

He brought me adventure and purpose through cancer.

He brought me joy that can’t be explained here on earth.

He taught me that there is so much more than material stuff and what the world deems success.

He brought me an eternal perspective that cancer can NEVER take away.

He brought me new job opportunities and ways to impact people.

Sickness is not my story. HE is.

Because God can heal by bringing His beloved home.

That is healing!

When I take my last breath. I will have won. I will have officially BEAT cancer because I’ll be made new and perfect in Heaven. Where there is no more cancer, no tears, no pain, no anguish or sorrow or devastation.

Only light, beauty and perfection!

“I have told you this so that you will have peace, by being United to me. The world will give you trouble, but take heart! For I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Thank you for sharing this, Lauren.

Unfortunately, ringing that bell is not the end of the cancer experience. Love to you and your girls! Martha (ms. martha from bethany;)
